A funded PhD scholarship is now available to explore proposed new approaches to impact evaluation. It will pay particular attention to so-called ‘small n’ and mixed method approaches. It will assess their philosophical foundations and their strengths and weaknesses in relation to the challenges facing evaluators seeking to explore the effectiveness of emergent and small scale interventions operating in dynamic and complex policy contexts. Further, this scholarship will explore the usefulness of different approaches with reference to two case study impact evaluations of small programmes delivered in the voluntary community and social enterprise sectors (VCSE).

The UK Housing Market: A financial, social and economic analysis

The UK housing market is an odd mix of three types of asset class: Owner occupier’s or rentier’s capital asset and as a solid investment good. The interplay of these factors will be examined and implications for the wellbeing of local people and society will be considered.

Co-producing an agenda for homelessness in Manchester

The project explores the ways in which Manchester Homelessness charter aims to improve the quality and quantity of homelessness services. Using action groups, the charter is run on coproduction lines. Using perspectives from users, action groups and the partnership board, this project will seek to explore how change works across the system.
