PERU is undertaking a process evaluation of Junior University, a widening participation project in Higher Education.

What is the need?

Disadvantaged students remain under-represented in higher education. Junior University is a mentoring programme for year 10 students​ run as a partnership between Which? University and education charity the Transformation Trust​, ​it ​aims to widen participation in higher education​ and give young people a real flavour of what university life is really like​​. ​Junior University will pair up undergraduates from participating universities with secondary school students to work together over a series of three session​s​ culminating in a visit to their host university.

What are we doing?

PERU is undertaking a process evaluation that includes surveys of school pupils and undergraduate mentors as well as an interview programme with pupils, mentors, school staff and university staff.

What will be the outcomes?

Final reports will be available in March 2018.

What are the timescales?

The evaluation started in August 2016 and ran until March 2018.
