Kevin Albertson recently discussed the value (or otherwise) of giving presents on ABC’s radio programme/podcast The Money. Some economists have suggested giving gifts destroys economic value; Kevin argues, the most important gift we can give is to show our nearest and dearest they are important to us. It follows the relational value of well-chosen and thoughtful gifts more than outweighs the economic value.
