PERU’s Kevin Wong and Barbara Shepherd from the Manchester Fashion Institute have set out policy recommendations for preventing shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE).
In their briefing they recommend that the government should: designate PPE manufacturing and distribution as National Critical Infrastructure sub-sector; legislate to ring-fence PPE equipment to the UK; and review the capacity and capability to scale up and respond to demand by applying Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing principles.
