The main purpose of this role is to undertake quantitative research in the field of social policy focusing on the income distribution, poverty, the social security system, taxation and the labour market, by maintaining and developing a microsimulation model of the tax and benefit system and by carrying out research projects using microsimulation modelling and quantitative analysis of survey data.

This is a 12 month fixed term position.

A substantial part of the role will be to work on maintaining and developing the Institute of Public Policy Research Tax-Benefit Model.  This includes day-to-day management of model development and relationships with users, and coding using Python and Stata to develop the model and to carry out quantitative analysis.  This post has a very strong focus on quantitative research and coding ability, as well as an understanding of the policy context and an interest in incomes, poverty and the tax and benefit system.
