I am delighted to have been selected as a British Science Assocation Media Fellow for this year! I will be placed with Channel 4, working with the Science Editor, Tom Clarke.

The Media Fellowship scheme encourages social scientists, scientists, and engineers to work more closely with our colleagues in the media in order to communicate research to a wider audience, as well as gives journalists direct access to new academic research.

Media Fellows work with a mentor at a media outlet, gaining experience of writing and researching in the fast-paced environment of journalism and learning how to translate their own research into this accesible, dynamic style. As part of the scheme, Media Fellows also have the opportunity to work in the Press Centre at the British Science Festival.

Following the placement, Media Fellows are expected to share their experience with colleagues at their institution, hopefully inspiring greater confidence and ability to engage with the media.

The scheme has been running since 1987 and is the only one of its kind in the UK. More information is available at: https://www.britishscienceassociation.org/media-fellows
