PERU’s Rachel Kinsella and Kevin Wong along with other MMU colleagues have now completed their three year evaluation of the Whole System Approach to Women Offenders in Greater Manchester.  The current government review of probation has highlighted the need to better address the needs of women offenders. The publication of the final evaluation is therefore timely.

The study found that: flexibility of the service; being non time-limited; addressing the range of women’s needs; and establishing positive relationships with staff and other women were important features. However good referral arrangements were required but also changes to sentencing legislation so women’s needs and vulnerabilities could be fully met.
