PERU’s Kirstine Szifris has been invited to give the closing keynote to the Tutor’s Association conference at the Barbican centre in London on October 16th 2018. Having read her work on the role of Philosophy education in prisons, the Tutor’s Association invited Kirstine to speak, to challenge tutors to think beyond their normal working environment and stimulate conversation around alternative education environments. Kirstine will be offering an overview of the current ‘state of play’ in prison education and some commentary on recent developments in prisons more generally. Her talk will focus specifically on her time teaching and researching the role of philosophy in prisons, and she will discuss the role of philosophy in supporting the desistance process and providing opportunity for positive interaction between prisoners.
