We are evaluating projects funded by the Youth Endowment Fund aimed at preventing young people from being involved in crime and violence.
What is the need?
The Youth Endowment Fund is aiming to build knowledge of ‘what works’ in preventing children from being drawn into crime and violence. In particular making a lasting contribution to the evidence base on preventing youth offending and by promoting the use of evidence-based practice among police forces, local authorities, voluntary agencies, schools and criminal justice agencies.
What are we doing?
PERU in conjunction with the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies (MCYS) are evaluating four Youth Endowment Fund supported projects lead by: Lambeth Council; Bristol based charity Empire Fighting Chance; St Christopher’s Fellowship in the London Borough of Barnet; and the Rugby Football League (RFL) across local areas in the north of England.
What will be the outcomes?
Over a two year period commencing in December 2019 PERU and MCYS will be undertaking:
• A feasibility study to answer the research question – Can the intervention achieve its intended outputs?
• A pilot study to answer the research question – Can the intervention achieve its intended outcomes?
