HM Inspectorate of Probation commissioned us to undertake a Rapid Evidence Assessment of the effectiveness of remote supervision approaches and emerging technologies to manage and rehabilitate probation service users.

What is the need?

Currently there is significant interest in the criminal justice sector on the use remote supervision and the use of technology in the supervision of probation service users. However, to date, there is no clear overview of the current state of the evidence in this area available to people working in the sector.

What are we doing?

We are using a Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) methodology to review existing empirical evidence that focuses upon the effectiveness of remote supervision approaches and emerging new technologies to manage and rehabilitate probation service users.

What will be the outcomes?

A report will be published by HM Probation Inspectorate in early 2019.

What are the timescales?

The work started in 2018 and was completed at the end of 2018
