What is the need?

Inside Out at HMP Preston is a resettlement programme for prisoners serving less than 12 months and includes the provision of a mentor to work with prisoners when they return to the community. The programme also uses a personalised resettlement planning process supported by an enabling fund. PERU is undertaking an evaluation to find out whether the programme is effective and cost effective.

What are we doing?

The PERU evaluation includes a process evaluation, impact evaluation and economic evaluation. The evaluation includes a series of in-depth interviews with offenders who have gone through the programme.

What will be the outcomes?

Our interim report reported on the process of implementing the project and has informed decision-making about the future development of the project. Our final report will be produced in 2013.

What are the timescales?

The project started in 2011 and will be completed in 2013.
