Staff from PERU are contributing to a number of events on Justice Devolution, working with Metropolis – Manchester Metropolitan’s research-led think tank.

In December, Chris Fox chaired the launch of a report by GovernUp on justice devolution. The event attracted approximately a hundred people and included talks by Tony Lloyd, Manchester’s interim Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner and Nick Herbert MP, Chair of GovernUp and an ex-policing Minister.

In March Kevin Wong and Chris Fox participated in a roundtable on Justice Devolution, organised by the Probation Institute and hosted at Manchester Metropolitan by Metropolis. Chris Fox also spoke at and chaired part of a Westminster Legal Forum Event on Justice Devolution, held in Manchester

Chris has written a blog on justice devolution. He argues that while Justice Devolution has the potential to be a positive disrupter that can help re-frame complex problems and sharpen the case for early intervention, it also presents challenges. These include the complexity of devolution agreements, limited community engagement in the process and the potential for justice devolution to become overly managerial and technocratic, losing sight of the potential for devolution to deliver social justice.
