MMU is proud to be hosting the Prison Learning Alliance (PLA) Conference 2018. The PLA is an alliance of organisations and individuals who have an interest in prison education. Their aim is to provide vision and expertise in policy and practice around prison education. PERU are particularly pleased to be involved in the organisation of the conference as we have a strong portfolio of prison education work through our partnership with Novus (led by Kirstine Szifris) and other projects including an evaluation of the Koestler Awards (led by Kevin Wong). The department of Sociology and Metropolis are financially supporting the conference in recognition of the importance of providing forums for policy makers, practitioners and academics to engage in conversation. The conference will also feature an awards ceremony that recognises the outstanding work of prison educators, prison officers and prisoners themselves in supporting learning in the prison context.
