[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

This paper explores the current training of youth justice practitioners and suggests that there\u00a0is now a polarisation between the teaching of youth justice in England and Wales into an\u00a0unhelpful vocational-academic dichotomy. The paper traces the development of the youth\u00a0justice foundation degree and identifies a need to balance criticality with \u2018underpinning\u00a0knowledge\u2019 by taking seriously the process of developing learning within the work setting.\u00a0The paper concludes by recommending a \u2018synthesised curriculum\u2019 which would facilitate\u00a0both employer engagement and \u2018academic integrity\u2019.
