This article considers recent changes to the probation service, including \u2018what works\u2019,\u00a0desistance, NOMS and contestability. It argues that there is need to publicise the positive\u00a0work undertaken by probation staff. In this respect the recent independent report by Lord\u00a0Coulsfield is mentioned and its recommendations to highlight the use of community\u00a0sentences.
